The German Bundeskartellamt with the support of the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation, organized a three-day training seminar aimed at enhancing the competitive and business environment in Uzbekistan.
The seminar, held for employees of Uzbekistan’s Committee for Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection, served as an important platform for knowledge exchange and professional development. Mr. Farrukh Karabayev, Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee, Ms.Sabine Zigelski, Senior Case Manager at the Bundeskartellamt, and Ms. Lija Grauberger, Head of Consumer Protection and Competition at the German Sparkassenstiftung have opened the Seminar.
This three-day seminar was conducted by Sabine Zigelski, Senior Case Manager at the Bundeskartellamt. It offered hands-on insights into key areas of competition policy – from investigative strategies and merger control to cartel enforcement and the abuse of dominant positions. Topics related to digital markets were also addressed. Participants especially appreciated the interactive group work and the discussion of both international and national case studies.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
Following the seminar, Khalillilo Turakhuzhaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee, held a meeting with Sabine Zigelski and Lija Grauberger to discuss further collaboration. The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the seminar, held from 27 to 29 May, and emphasized the importance of continued professional training for Competition Committee staff.
Both parties agreed to organize similar seminars in the future, ensuring sustained knowledge-sharing and skill development in competition law, business regulation, and consumer protection. Additionally, they discussed broader cooperation between Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee and Germany’s Federal Cartel Office, aiming to strengthen coordination in antitrust regulation and economic competitiveness.
Chairman Khalillilo Turakhuzhaev expressed his gratitude to the German delegation for their support and expertise, congratulating them on the successful seminar. The meeting reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Germany in fostering a fair and transparent business environment.
With this initiative, Uzbekistan continues to integrate international best practices, promoting a competitive market that benefits businesses and consumers alike.
